Our retriever programs are tailored to the individual needs of your dog. We aim to develop a dog with optimal confidence and a superior attitude. Our training builds upon your dog's natural desire and drive and transforms it into consistent, quality performance in the field. Our Gundog uses the same solid foundation as our hunt test

program, however, there is less focus on adhering to competition specific skills, such as line manners, and more of a focus on practical application of retriever skills during an actual hunt in the field. Whether you decide you want a water dog or an upland retriever, we will customize and tailor to your specific game bird you will be hunting.

Solid Foundations
All our training builds upon a solid off-leash obedience program. The key to success with any dog is control and consistency. When a relationship of respect exists between dog and handler, both will have clear expectations of what is expected in terms of performance.


There is no doubt that strong drive and desire in a dog is a positive trait for retriever training. However, if your dog is willingness to please translates into an over-excited, out-of-control dog in training, how can you expect that dog to perform on the line at a hunt test, or in the field when it is over 50 or 100 yards away from you?

Our emphasis on obedience sets clear standards for your dog. Once your dog understands what your expectations are, the potential for learning is limitless.

OWNER PARTICIPATION
At PSP International, you can choose to be as involved, or uninvolved, in your dog is retriever training program as you like. Some of our clients prefer to come out and train with us, learning to handle their dog, preparing himself or herself to handle the dog in a trial or hunting situation.

Still, other clients take a more hands-off? approach and simply come out every now and then to observe their dog in training.


Which approach is better?
There really is no better? approach. It all depends on your goals.
If you are looking to build a strong bond between your dog and become proficient in training and handling your dog, owner participation is your best option. If you choose not to participate in training, or simply don't have the time, but you're looking to build a strong gundog for hunting season, or develop your dog is natural talent to showcase his awards from competition, then we are more than happy to accommodate you with a program that includes boarding, pick-up and delivery service for local clients, or other options to cater to your needs.

It should be mentioned, however, that owners choosing to participate in their dog is training generally become better handlers and command a higher respect from their dog both in and out of the field. In addition, the bond of respect and trust built between a handler and his dog can turn out to be it is own reward, better than any ribbon or title your dog may achieve in competition.

Your dogs will see a variety of game throughout the training season. Ducks, Pheasants, and pigeons are used to prepare your dog for tests, as well as actual hunting situations. We do also use plastic bumpers when appropriate.
