EXERCISE No# 6
COURAGE TEST

 |
|
Handler takes up his surveillance position. A suspect then appears
at a distance of about 80 yards. The person is moving away at a running
pace. |
 |
As
soon as the dog has been alerted to the person, the handler
call his departmental warning. The handler then sends his dog.
The dog must pursue the suspect as fast as possible to catch
up with the fleeing suspect |
|
When
the Dog is about 40 paces from the suspect, he/she shall
turn and charge at the Dog.
This is to test the Dog's Courage. Suspect shall charge
towards the dog and yell, wave his/her arms, and throw
small (harmless) objects at the Dog. |

The
Dog should disregard these actions and engage the person intensely.
When the Handler and suspect arrives at a distance of at least
10 paces, the Dog shall be commanded to assume a guarding position. |
|
The Dog shall heel beside its Handler as he/she escorts the suspect
to the evaluator for remanding. This is to exhibit full control. |
